This
has got to be one of the greatest books ever written on the subject
of prayer. Murray's writings bring to the surface spiritual disciplines
of years gone by and a Christian depth earned only through years
of ministry experience, both of which are joined together in such
a unique adoration of his Savior that it leaves the reader desiring
to know the Father even more. He effortlessly captures the essence
of what a Christian's character should be like, while instructing
the pupil in lessons concerning prayer that he has personally gleaned
from time spent at the feet of the Master.
Andrew Murray was a Dutch reformed Church missionary sent from Scotland
to South Africa (he completed his initial education in Aberdeen
in Scotland and obtained his M.A in 1845, went to the University
of Utrecht where he studied theology, and was ordained by the Hague
Committee of the Dutch Reformed Church on May 9, 1848 and returned
to South Africa), where he was a church pastor, an author who wrote
over 240 books, and a champion of the South African Revival of 1860.
This classic text has inspired thousands of believers over the years
to continue in and develop the depth of their prayer ministry, in
order to see the power of God change lives around them forever.
In reproducing this classic, I have tried to leave the text as unedited
as possible, in an attempt to leave the intended message in tact.
While the language used may seem a little dated, I believe that
those who take the time to read and apply what Murray has left behind,
their lives will be forever changed.
